Spaghetti Night at Woodbridge this Thursday

Jsut a reminder that there will be no Den Meetings held at Woodbridge this Thursday.  If your Den has arranged to meet at a different location, that is fine – but please make sure to inform Joe Iaconetti of the location.  The spaghetti dinner (sponsored by the Olive Garden!) is from 6 to 7 in the Woodbridge Cafeteria, and plates are $5.  Webelos should attend to help sell the remaining candy bars.  Please come by and support Woodbridge, which has supported us in so many things!

Pine Wood Derby Location Change

This year, we are having the 2011-2012 Pine Wood Derby on February 11th at First Reformed Church on Hillsborough Ave:

This year’s design categories will be:

  1. Most Authentic Vehicle
  2. Food
  3. Scout Theme
  4. Animal
  5. Nautical
  6. Patriotic

A complete set of the Pack 246 Pine Wood Derby Rules can be found here.  The Committee will have a snack bar set up with Pizza and sodas if you get hungry between heats.

New Leadership Meeting Scheduled

The next Pack Leader and Committee Meeting will be December 14th at 7pm in the library on Paula Drive.  We’ve got Community Room B.  First person there needs to go upstairs and check in with the Library’s Information Desk.  Anyone with an interest in planning Pack Activities is encouraged to attend!

Veteran’s Parade Lineup Announced

The lineup for the Tampa Veteran’s Day Parade has finally been announced, and the Pack will be in position B7.  This location is on Baseball Ave on the SOUTH side of Morgan Woods – where the hiking trail is.  This is exciting because it’s essentially the 7th spot in the parade lineup after the honorees!  A link to the official parade lineup can be found here, complete with maps of where the “B” area is.

For our first time parade attendees, here are some quick Do’s and Don’ts for the parade:

DO be there before 8:30AM – the roads will be blocked off earlier this year at 9:00
DO drop a car off somewhere around the Post Office on Paula Drive so you can get out of there quickly
DO put sunscreen on your scout before you get out there
DO bring a bottle of water
DO have your scout wear their CLASS A UNIFORM – make them look sharp!
DO bring a camera – there will be lots of picture moments
DO feel free to walk with the Pack – Scouts will be in the front lined up by Den, parents and siblings will be behind us
DO feel free to bring a wagon to carry your stuff – although I can attest that towing one gets old right about at Fountain Ave
DO smile, have fun and wave to all the smiling faces we’ll see
DO salute the veterans that we’ll see along the way

…and the very short Don’t list:

DON’T wear beads with your Class A
DON’T bring beads or other items to throw or hand out
DON’T misbehave – we’re not only representing Cub Scouts and the BSA, we’re representing the best of our schools and communities!

If it’s going to be chilly, it’s better to layer and wear a t-shirt and long sleeve shirt under your uniform than to wear a jacket.  It may start off chilly, but once we get walking it won’t be chilly for long.  When we get there, we’ll practice lining up and rotating the Dens so that everyone gets a chance to hold the pack’s banner.

Activity Date Changes

Just so everyone is clear – we have new dates for the Car Wash and the Spook-o-Ree Campout:

Car Wash
When: October 15th from 10AM to 2PM
Where: Dairy Queen on 8410 Citrus Park Drive
What: This is a mini fundraiser that we’ll have on October 15th, at the Dairy Queen by the Citrus Park Mall (in front of Sports Authority). The car wash will start at 10am and last through 2pm. We will have a sign up sheet for slots to work 10am-noon and noon to 2pm. Bring a bucket and a sponge!

Spook-o-Ree Campout
When: October 28-30
Where: Camp Brorein
What: Our first campout of the year will be at Camp Brorein the weekend of the 28th. The Spook-o-Ree trail will be open, which we’ll do Saturday night. We’ll have a campsite reserved for Friday and Saturday night. As usual, dinner Saturday night and breakfast Sunday will be provided by the Pack – all other meals provided by individual campers. Camp can be set up as early as you like on Friday, and we’ll stay through Sunday morning. Activities will be planned for Saturday.

It’s Candy Bar Time!

As a fundraiser for the Pack this year, we will be selling the World’s Finest Chocolate Bars!! This is a great fundraiser and an easy sale. We are asking that each scout take a minimum of 1 box to sell (or more). There are 50 bars in a box and each candy bar only costs $1. Take a box to work, take a box to church or take a box with you to a sporting event and see how fast they go! Our Pack has 50 boxes to sell in the next couple weeks so we need all of your help asap! Please call Angie McCutcheon with questions.

CANDY BAR PICK UP OPTIONS:

1 – Go by Treasurer Angie McCutcheon’s home at any time on Thursday, September 15th to pick up your box or boxes.

2 – Attend the Scout Meeting on Thursday, September 15th between 7 – 8 to pick up your box. Please call or email Angie with the number of boxes you would like to sell so that we know how many to bring to the meeting.

Welcome to the 2011-2012 Scouting Year!

Please take a minute to check out the new items that have been added to the Pack Calendar for the 2011-2012 school year:

- Recruiting at Morgan Woods Open House on 8/19 and Woodbridge Open House on 8/22.
- Ice Cream Social on 8/25. New scouts recruited at the Open House are highly encouraged to attend!
- First Den Meetings on 9/1

Anybody that would like to volunteer to work at the Open House recruiting tables, please contact Mr Joe as soon as possible at committee@pack246.com.  Also, Committee Members and Den Leaders need to be sure to complete Youth Protection Training as soon as possible if your certification is expired!
